The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve of the body.
Carries contributions from L4-S3
Forms on the anterior surface of the PIRIFORMIS muscle and leaves the pelvis via the GREATER SCIATIC FORAMEN which is BELOW pirifomis.
Passes thru the butt into the leg, where it splits into 2 major branches
1. COMMON FIBULAR NERVE
2. TIBIAL NERVE
Innervates muscles in the posterior compartment of the thigh and muscles of the leg and foot
Carries sensory fibres from the skin of the foot and lateral leg
